Kirilenko cruises in Kolkata tournament

KOLKATA, India, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Fourth-seeded Maria Kirilenko recorded an easy straight-set victory Monday in opening the $175,000 Sunfeast Open tennis tournament in India.

Kirilenko cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Neha Uberoi and into the second round of the tournament for a match with Ekaterina Ivanova. Ivanova was pushed in her 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Naomi Cavaday.

No. 8-seeded Yung-Jan Chan posted a very impressive 6-0, 6-0 romp over local favorite Kyra Shroff. Chan is paired against Jarmila Gajdosova, a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Youlia Fedossova on Monday, in the second round.

Also Monday, Casey Dellacqua defeated Aleksandra Wozniak 6-2, 6-3.

Marion Bartoli is the top seed for the Sunfeast Open while Daniela Hantuchova, the runner-up in a tournament in Indonesia last week, is seeded second.

Defending champion Martina Hingis passed the Sunfeast Open this year.
