Shawne Williams accepts Pacers' suspension

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Indiana Pacers forward Shawne Williams apologized Friday for his recent legal indiscretion, saying he would accept the team's three-game suspension.

The Indianapolis Star said that Williams, who was arrested this week when a gun and marijuana were allegedly found in his car, apologized Friday at the Pacers facility and said he wouldn't appeal team President Larry Bird's suspension.

"It's been devastating," he said. "I felt like I let my organization down, my teammates down, the owners, and my family."

Since his arrest Tuesday, the NBA player has been cleared on any drug and firearm charges but still faces a charge of driving without a license.

Williams also released an apologetic statement Friday, mentioning both his teammates and Pacers fans.

"I am very disappointed that I put myself in this position and I take full responsibility and want to be held accountable for my actions," the statement said. "I want to apologize to Mel and Herb Simon, the Pacers front office, my teammates, my family, and most importantly, the fans."
