SEATTLE, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Yuniesky Betancourt singled in pinch-runner Charlton Jimerson from second with two out in the ninth Wednesday, delivering Seattle a 6-5 win over Oakland.
The Mariners tied the game in the eighth on a solo homer by Adam Jones and then halted a two-game losing streak by scratching out a run off Andrew Brown (2-2).
Brown came on with one out in the ninth and the bases empty, but gave up a single to Jose Guillen. Ben Broussard advanced Guillen to second with a groundout and Jose Vidro was intentionally walked.
Jimerson was called on to run for Guillen, after which Betancourt fouled off a pitch. He lined Brown's next offering into center to bring home Jimerson.
That made a winner out of closer J.J. Putz (3-1), who retired the side in order in the top of the ninth.
