BALI, Indonesia, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Ayumi Morita posted an upset victory Wednesday at the $225,000 Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic in Indonesia and earned her first WTA quarterfinal slot.

Morita, a qualifier at the clay-court tournament, knocked out sixth-seeded Martina Muller, 6-4, 6-0. It was the first time in a WTA event that Morita claimed a second-round win.

She advanced to the quarterfinals against second-seeded Daniela Hantuchova, who was a 7-5, 6-3, winner over Elise Tamaela in their second-round match.

Also Wednesday, Edina Gallovits defeated Meng Yuan, 6-2, 6-4, in second-round play and seventh-seeded Aiko Nakamura topped Tamarine Tanasugarn, 6-1, 6-7 (5-7) 7-5, in a first-round match.

The second round is to conclude Thursday with matches featuring top-seeded Jelena Jankovic and Lindsay Davenport, who is playing her first singles tennis in almost a year.
