CHICAGO, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Travis Hafner drove in three runs Tuesday as Cleveland ripped the Chicago White Sox 8-3 and strengthened their hold on first place in the AL Central.
Ryan Garko knocked a solo homer and also drove in two runs for Cleveland, which has won 15 of its last 18 contests. The Indians now lead Detroit by 6 1/2 games in the AL Central.
Paul Byrd (15-6) picked up the win, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings. Byrd, who struck out just one batter, owns an 8-2 record in 13 career starts against the White Sox.
Juan Uribe homered twice for Chicago, which has lost 15 of its last 20 games.
White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen agreed to a four-year contract extension Tuesday that will keep him in Chicago through the 2012 season.
Struggling rookie John Danks was reached for three runs on three hits and four walks over 2 2/3 frames in the start -- his shortest outing of the season. Lance Broadway (0-1) took the loss, allowing a run and two hits over 2 2/3 innings of relief.
