CHICAGO, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Jim Thome hit the 499th home run of his career Wednesday as the Chicago White Sox rolled over the AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians 7-4.
Thome’s 27th homer this season was a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, breaking a 1-1 tie. The veteran slugger added a two-run single in the fifth.
Like Thome, Chicago's Paul Konerko had three hits and three RBI. One of Konerko's hits was a two-run homer in the seventh.
Jose Uribe had two hits -- one a solo homer in the second -- as the White Sox stopped a three-game losing streak.
The winner was Javier Vazquez (12-8).
"Hopefully, he comes through in one of the three games this weekend," said Manager Ozzie Guillen about Thome hitting his 500th homer with his wife and daughter in attendance at Comiskey Field.
Four Cleveland players drove in a run. Ryan Garko and Casey Blake both had two hits for the Indians, who had won four straight.
The losing pitcher was Jake Westbrook (5-9).
