
NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- David Wright hit a two-run homer Monday, enabling the New York Mets to edge the Atlanta Braves 3-2.
Carlos Beltran drove in a run and made a sliding catch for the final out of the game for NL East-leading New York, which has won nine of of its last 10 games.
Mets starter Oliver Perez (14-9) won for the fourth time in his last five appearances. He gave up two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in seven innings.
Brian McCann hit a two-run homer for the Braves, who fell 9 1/2 games behind the Mets in the standings.
Braves pitcher Tim Hudson (15-8) allowed three runs on five hits in seven innings.
Atlanta played without Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones. Both were late scratches to the lineup. Chipper Jones strained a muscle on his right side during batting practice and Andruw Jones was suffering from an illness.
