
CHICAGO, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Aramis Ramirez was 4-for-5 with two home runs and three runs scored Monday as the Chicago Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 12-3.
Derrek Lee added three hits, including a home run, and scored twice for the Cubs, who won for just the third time in their last eight games and moved within a half- game of first-place Milwaukee in the NL Central.
Jacque Jones had a homer among his three hits and drove in two runs and scored two. Craig Monroe had a two-run single.
Winning pitcher Ted Lilly (15-7) allowed three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings.
Cards starter Joel Pineiro (4-3) was charged with eight hits and six runs in 3 1/3 innings -- his shortest outing since being acquired from Boston on July 31. So Taguchi hit a two-run homer and Jim Edmonds added a solo homer for the Cardinals, who have lost five of their last six games.
