
LANDOVER, Md., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Shaun Suisham kicked a 39-yard field goal 5:33 into the NFL's first overtime period of the season Sunday, giving Washington a 16-13 win over Miami.
The Redskins won the coin toss to start the overtime and Clinton Portis promptly produced two 20-yard runs. Jason Campbell then hit Chris Cooley with a 10-yard pass on third-and-seven to keep the drive alive and a nine-yard run by Portis set up Suisham's kick.
Portis gained 98 yards on 17 carries and Campbell completed 12 of 21 passes for 222 yards.
Miami quarterback Trent Green was 24 of 38 for 219 yards, but the Dolphins could not mount a running game in the coaching debut of Cam Cameron. Ronnie Brown managed only 32 yards on 11 carries and Miami had a total of 66 ground yards.
Cameron, however, made a bold move at the end of the first half that gave the Dolphins a 7-3 lead at the break. Rather than settling for a short field goal that would have tied the game, Cameron went for the touchdown and got it when Green hit Justin Peelle with a one-yard pass.
Miami produced the final points of regulation when Jay Feely kicked a 36-yard field goal with two minutes remaining in the fourth period.
