
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena hit solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth Sunday afternoon, as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat Toronto, 3-2.
Crawford’s homer was his 11th this season, and Pena’s was his 38th. They were back-to-back to start the inning.
Pena set a franchise single-season record with his19th homer at Tropicana Field. It gave him 106 RBI for the season.
Tampa Bay’s other run was courtesy of Brendan Harris’ solo homer in the second. Pena had three hits and Crawford two, as the Devil Rays won twice in the three-game series.
Winner James Shields (12-8) allowed two earned runs and four hits in seven innings, with no walks and five strikeouts.
Closer Al Reyes earned his 23rd save.
Toronto scored on Vernon Wells’ third-inning groundout and Aaron Hill’s sixth inning solo homer. Hill had two of the four hits for the Blue Jays, who have split their last 10 games.
The losing pitcher was starter Jesse Litsch (5-8).
