MLB: N.Y. Yankees 6, Kansas City 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez homered for a fifth straight game Sunday, as the New York Yankees beat Kansas City, 6-3, completing a three-game sweep.

Rodriguez's 52nd homer of the season was a two-run shot in the top of the first. New York’s Jorge Posada had one run, two hits and two RBI.

Wilson Betemit and Robinson Cano had one RBI apiece, while Cano also had two hits for the Yankees, who have won five in a row.

Winner Chien-Ming Wang (18-6) allowed three earned runs and five hits in seven innings to get his fifth straight victory.

Closer Mariano Rivera recorded his 25th save.

Kansas City scored all its runs on Alex Gordon’s three-run double in the fourth. Joey Gathright had two of the six hits for the Royals, who have lost five straight.

The losing pitcher was reliever Brandon Duckworth (2-5).
