MLB: Atlanta 9, Washington 2

ATLANTA, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Jeff Francoeur hit a three-run homer and had four RBI Saturday night as the Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals, 9-2.

Washington followed its five errors Friday night with three more Saturday, making all six runs scored against starter and loser Matt Chico (5-8) unearned.

Atlanta also got two hits, one a solo homer, and three runs from Yunel Escobar. Mark Teixeira had two runs, two hits and two RBI, while Edgar Renteria also had two hits for the Braves, who have won three in a row and four of their last five games.

The winning pitcher was starter Chuck James (10-10).

Washington’s runs scored on Ronny Belliard’s two-run homer in the seventh.

Nook Logan had two of the nine hits for the Nationals, who suffered their ninth straight road loss, and the ninth loss in their last 10 games at Turner Field.
