COL FB: Ohio State 20, Akron 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Chris Wells rushed for 142 yards on 20 carries Saturday as 11th-ranked Ohio State beat Akron 20-2.

The Zips (1-1) led 2-0 after the uninspired Buckeyes (2-0) played a sluggish first quarter. Akron’s safety came when Wells was tackled in the end zone with 10:12 left.

OSU led 3-2 at halftime on a 37-yard field goal by Ryan Pretorius with 7:54 left in the second.

Akron went scoreless in the second half, while OSU got 10 points in the third quarter, and seven in the fourth.

Pretorius kicked a second field goal, and Todd Boeckman passed for two touchdowns and two interceptions after going 14-of-23 for 131 yards.

Also for the Buckeyes, Brian Robiskie scored once on four catches for 82 yards.

Akron’s Chris Jacquemain was 12-of-21 passing for just 48 yards, and the Zips were held to three net rushing yards.
