DETROIT, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Placido Polanco hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth Thursday afternoon, delivering the Detroit Tigers a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
The bouncer through the left side of the Chicago infield completed a two-run ninth-inning rally for the Tigers, who handed White Sox reliever Bobby Jenks (3-5) his sixth blown save.
Bobby Seay (3-0) picked up the victory.
Chicago used a two-run double by Paul Konerko in the eighth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
With the Tigers facing Jenks, who hadn't blown a save in 16 consecutive tries against Detroit, Timo Perez led off the ninth with a ground-ball single. He went to second on an error and made third on a Mike Rabelo two-strike sacrifice.
Sean Casey added a pinch-hit single that allowed Detroit to tie the score. Pinch-runner Omar Infante advanced on a ground out. After a hit batsman, Polanco got the game-winning hit.
The first Detroit run came on a third-inning home run by Brandon Inge, who had three hits in the game.
