Ordonez American League Player of Month

NEW YORK, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Detroit Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez was named Tuesday as the American League Player of the Month for August.

Ordonez, a six-time All-Star, batted .393 with 46 hits and 31 RBI in 29 games. He also hit 10 home runs and five doubles and scored 24 times.

Ordonez, who got his second-career player of the month award, had a .692 slugging percentage and a .445 on-base percentage during August.
