No 49ers stadium vote until June

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Santa Clara, Calif., city officials say a proposal to build a stadium for the San Francisco 49ers may not see a vote until the November 2008 election.

City officials, who set out to conduct a six-month feasibility study on building the stadium more than eight months ago, said the measure will not be ready for a vote by the original February deadline and will see a vote June 3 -- the state primary date -- at the earliest, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported Tuesday.

"It could be June, but it could take until November," Councilman Dominic Caserta said.

In addition to the incomplete feasibility study, the measure faces a degree of uncertainty over whether Cedar Fair, the Ohio-based parent of Santa Clara amusement park Great America, will allow the stadium to be built in close proximity to the park.

"They really do have a veto power here, whether that's good or bad," Caserta said.
