MLB: St. Louis 6, Pittsburgh 2

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Chris Duncan hit a three-run double Tuesday as the St. Louis Cardinals posted a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

David Eckstein went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Russell Branyan hit a solo home run for the Cardinals, who have won four of their last five games. St. Louis is one game behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central.

Joel Pineiro (5-3) was the winning pitcher as he gave up two runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Ronny Paulino was 3-for-4 with a run scored and, Nyjer Morgan and Jose Bautista each drove in a run for the Pirates, who have lost six of their last seven games.
