Roddick, Federer advance at the U.S. Open

NEW YORK, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- American Andy Roddick was among Saturday’s men’s winners at the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament, with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, trouncing of Sweden’s Thomas Johansson.

The former world No. 1 and fifth-seeded Roddick won the last 11 games to eliminate his third-round opponent. Roddick had 19 aces and six service breaks.

"It felt good," Roddick said. "I wanted to go out and hit the ball and be aggressive, get hold of my forehand, if I could. I felt like I did that today."

After Roddick advanced, defending champion and No. 1 seed Roger Federer rallied to beat highly-regarded U.S. youngster John Izner, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

No. 6 James Blake overcame unseeded Stefan Koubek, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, Saturday night.

Other seeded men's winners were No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko, No. 9 Thomas Berdych and No. 10 Tommy Haas.
