HONOLULU, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Colt Brennan threw six first-half touchdown passes Saturday as No. 24 Hawaii blasted Northern Colorado 63-6 in its football season opener.
He completed 34 of 40 passes for 416 yards, and the performance was so dominant the potential Heisman Trophy contender did not play after halftime.
Last season, he shattered or equaled 18 NCAA records, and was the first Warrior quarterback since 1978 to earn All-America honors, when he threw 58 scoring passes.
Also for the Warriors, Ryan Grice-Mullen scored twice on nine receptions for 130 yards, Michael Washington scored on an 80-yard punt return, and Malcolm Lane returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown.
It was the third straight game the Warriors scored at least 40 points, and is the school’s first-ever national ranking.
The Broncos’ only score came on a 5-yard run by backup quarterback Mike Vlahogeorge in the fourth quarter.
