Three-way tie for lead at Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Irishman Des Smyth shot an 8-under 64 Saturday to take a share of the lead after two rounds of the seniors Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, Calif.

Gil Morgan and Champions Tour all-time wins leader Hale Irwin both had 65s to join Smyth in the lead at 9-under 135.

First-round leader Morris Hatalsky turned in an even-par 72 and shares fourth place with Lonnie Nielsen (69), Joe Ozaki (65) and Tom Watson (70). Jay Haas is alone in eighth at 138 after shooting 65 in round two.

The first two rounds were played at Del Monte and Pebble Beach. Pebble Beach will be the site of the final round Sunday.

Players were paired with junior golfers and amateur partners as well for the first two days. The 10 leading amateur teams and 22 juniors will join the professionals for the final round at Pebble Beach.
