ATLANTA, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Mike Pelfrey gave up one run and one hit in six innings Saturday afternoon as the New York Mets beat Atlanta, 5-1.
While getting his first victory in more than a year, Pelfrey (1-7) walked three batters and struck out seven. His last previous victory was July 18, 2006, against Cincinnati.
New York's Carlos Delgado, Lastings Milledge and Carlos Beltran all hit solo home runs, and Jose Reyes got his major league-leading 74th stolen base of the season.
Delgado also hit a sacrifice fly, while Beltran had three hits and scored three times, as the Mets won their second straight after four straight losses at Philadelphia.
Atlanta’s run scored in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Willie Harris. Jeff Francoeur and Mark Teixeira both had one hit for the Braves, who have dropped seven of 10.
Losing pitcher Chuck James (9-10) surrendered three earned runs and five hits in five innings.
