CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Joe Gibbs Racing will change from GM to Toyota for the 2008 Nextel Cup season.
The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Friday JGR Enterprises will announce the change at a news conference next Wednesday, with officials of Toyota, JGR and Nextel Cup drivers Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin scheduled to attend.
The report added Hamlin, 26, and JGR have agreed on a contract extension that will keep him with JGR through the 2013 season.
Toyota has earned just one top 5 and six top 10 finishes this year in its first season on the Nextel Cup circuit.
So far, Gibbs' drivers have three wins and 32 top 10s.
Next season, Hamlin, Stewart, J.J. Yeley, and Kyle Busch will be part of an imposing JGR team.
Busch is leaving Hendrick Motorsports at the end of this season and Stewart has won two Nextel points titles while driving for JGR.
