Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Four field goals from Jeff Reed Thursday night boosted the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 19-3 exhibition victory over Carolina.
The Steelers' lone touchdown came on a 32-yard interception return by Tyrone Carter.
Pittsburgh (4-1) will visit Cleveland to open its regular season.
Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed his only two passes of the night, as he played just one series.
Carolina's David Carr completed eight of 12 passes for 85 yards with one interception.
The Panthers (1-3) fumbled five times and lost four of them.
They begin their season in St. Louis.
