LAS VEGAS, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- LeBron James scored all of his 26 points in the first half Wednesday as the United States inched closer to an Olympic berth by downing Uruguay 118-79.
The Americans and Argentina are both 6-0 in the Olympic qualifying tournament and will meet Friday in the concluding game of the quarterfinal round. Both are assured a spot in the semifinals, which will be played Saturday.
The top two finishers in the tournament will earn spots in next summer's Beijing Olympics.
Canada and Brazil have 3-3 records as they battle for the other two semifinal spots, but Puerto Rico (2-4) can jump into the semifinals with a victory over Canada Friday.
Canada recorded a 97-80 win over Mexico Wednesday, while Argentina stayed unbeaten by overcoming a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat Brazil in overtime 86-79.
Puerto Rico kept its hopes alive with a 92-63 drubbing of Venezuela.
Team USA built a 66-38 halftime lead against Uruguay.
