Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

FOXBORO, Mass., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Quinton Smith and Heath Evans scored rushing TDs Thursday night as the New England Patriots won their final exhibition game over the New York Giants, 27-20.
New England quarterback Tom Brady did not play, while New York's Eli Manning put together a 16-play scoring drive at the start of the game.
Manning completed five of eight passes for 58 yards on the march and Brandon Jacobs finished it off with a one-yard run.
Matt Cassel and Vinny Testaverde each threw for 99 yards for the Patriots (2-2), who will start their season on the road against the New York Jets. The Giants (1-3) will open in Dallas.
