MLB: N.Y. Yankees 5, Boston 0

NEW YORK, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Chien-Ming Wang and two relievers combined on a two-hit shutout Thursday as the New York Yankees beat Boston, 5-0, completing a three-game sweep.

New York's Robinson Cano belted two solo home runs, one in the bottom of the third inning, the other in the fifth.

Bobby Abreu knocked in one run, and the other two scored on Jason Varitek's eighth inning throwing error.

Derek Jeter added a run and four hits as the Yankees moved within five games of Boston atop the AL East.

Wang (16-6), who had a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings, gave up one hit in seven scoreless innings with four walks and five strikeouts.

Mike Lowell’s sixth inning single ended the no-hitter, while relievers Joba Chamberlain and Edwar Ramirez finished up.

Dustin Pedroia had Boston's other hit.

The loser was Curt Schilling (8-6).

Boston Manager Terry Francona was ejected in the seventh after arguing a base-running call.
