NORTON, Mass., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Ernie Els, 10th on the FedEx Cup points list, Tuesday withdrew from the Deutsche Bank Championship in Massachusetts to deal with family matters.

Els finished fourth last week at The Barclays. That finish, along with his season’s performance, assured Els a spot in BMW Championship, which will take the top 70 players in the standings into the Sept. 6-9 tournament.

Els said he was returning to his home in Wentworth, England, to supervise family matter. He added he expected to be back to the BMW Championships.

"I have been on the road now for almost eight weeks and it is important that I return home where my children will be preparing for their return to school," Els said.
