Brown receives contract extension at Texas

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- University of Texas football Coach Mack Brown agreed Tuesday on a two-year contract extension that raises his compensation to $2.8 million this year.

Brown has led Texas to the nation's best record (93-22) over the last nine seasons, including the Longhorns' first national championship in 35 years in 2005.

The deal keeps Brown at the school through the 2016 campaign. He gets a $1 million bonus if he's still at Texas on Jan. 1, 2009, after which he would receive another $2 million if still coach on Jan. 1, 2010. As in his previous deal, Brown will still receive automatic $100,000 raises each year.

Brown's new performance incentives include a Big 12 title game appearance for $50,000, with another $100,000 for a victory. A BCS bowl berth would earn $100,000, a national championship an additional $450,000, and a No. 2 or No. 3 final national ranking $100,000.
