MLB: Houston 5, Pittsburgh 4

HOUSTON, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Ty Wigginton hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth Sunday as Houston edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4.

It was Wigginton’s third homer since joining the Astros from Tampa Bay, and 19th of the season.

Three other Astros had one RBI, and Luke Scott and Lance Berkman had three hits each as Houston stopped a three-game slide.

The winner was Mark McLemore (3-0), and Brad Lidge recorded his 13th save.

Pittsburgh scored on an RBI single by Cesar Izturis in the second, a two-run single by Adam LaRoche in the third and a solo homer by Freddy Sanchez in the fifth. LaRoche and Nate McLouth both had two hits for the Pirates, whose four-game win streak was broken.

The loser was Shawn Chacon (4-4).

Before the contest, the Astros retired the No. 5 jersey of former first baseman Jeff Bagwell, who played his entire 15-year career in Houston.
