MLB: LA Angels 3, Toronto 0

ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Jered Weaver allowed five hits over six shutout innings Friday night and the Los Angeles Angels went on to blank Toronto, 3-0.

Los Angeles maintained its one-game lead over second-place Seattle in the American League West.

Weaver (9-6) gave way to first Justin Speier and then to Scot Shields, who worked one inning each. Francisco Rodriguez pitched the ninth for his 32nd save.

Singles by Reggie Willits, Vladimir Guerrero, Gary Matthews and Maicer Izturis accounted for two runs in the first.

Losing pitcher Roy Halladay (14-6) gave up three runs on 12 hits in eight innings, with five strikeouts and no walks.

Toronto was shut out for the fourth time this season.
