BALTIMORE, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Ramon Vazquez had seven RBI each Wednesday as Texas set an American League record for runs in crushing Baltimore 30-3.

In the first game of a doubleheader, the Rangers produced six home runs -- two of them grand slams -- and recorded the most lopsided major league result in 125 years.

The major league record for most runs in a game is 36, recorded by the Chicago Cubs against Louisville in a National League game in 1897. No other team had scored 30 runs until the Rangers did so Wednesday night.

Saltalamacchia and Vazquez, the bottom two men in the batting order, had two homers each. Marlon Byrd hit a grand slam as part of a nine-run sixth, during which the Rangers sent 14 men to the plate. Travis Metcalf hit a grand slam during a 10-run eighth.

Kason Gabbard (6-1) got the win, allowing three runs over six innings. Wes Littleton earned a save, his first of the year, by pitching the final three innings.

The loss went to Daniel Cabrera (9-13), who coughed up the first six runs of the game.
