MLB: Minnesota 8, Seattle 4

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Michael Cuddyer hit a grand slam home run Wednesday afternoon to help the Minnesota Twins beat Seattle, 8-4, preventing a three-game Mariners' sweep.

The homer, Cuddyer’s 13th this season and his only hit of the contest, was part of a seven-run bottom of the first. Minnesota also got one RBI each from Jason Kubel, Nick Punto, Garrett Jones and Alexi Casilla.

Kubel had three hits, and three players had two hits for the Twins, who have won five of their last eight games.

Winner Carlos Silva (8-12) surrendered two earned runs and eight hits in seven innings to get the first victory in his last four starts.

Four Seattle players had one RBI, including Ben Brossard, who hit a solo homer in the seventh -- his seventh home run of the season.

Four players had two hits each for the Mariners, whose five-game winning streak was snapped.

Loser Miguel Batista (13-9) gave up eight earned runs and nine hits in two innings.
