RB Larry Johnson rejoins Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Kansas City running back Larry Johnson, who finished second in the NFL in rushing last season, ended his holdout and joined the Chiefs at training camp.

Johnson agreed to a contract extension that The Kansas City Star said would pay Johnson $45 million over six seasons. The team said Johnson practiced with the Chiefs Tuesday.

Johnson set an NFL record with 416 carries last season and his 1,789 yards was second in the league to LaDainian Tomlinson's 1,815. Even with the league-record number of carries, Johnson fumbled just twice last season.

He also scored 17 rushing touchdowns. His rushing yardage total broke the franchise record of 1,750 yards he set in 2005. He is only the third running back in NFL history to gain at least 1,750 yards in consecutive seasons.

The Chiefs made Johnson their first-round draft pick in 2003. In four seasons, Johnson has 4,205 rushing yards and 47 rushing touchdowns. He's also caught 97 passes for another 1,033 yards and five touchdowns. He was selected to the AFC Pro Bowl team after each of the last two seasons.
