Phillies' Hamels to miss start

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies announced Tuesday pitcher Cole Hamels will miss his scheduled Wednesday start against the L.A. Dodgers because of a sore elbow.

Hamels (14-5) has pitched 167 1/3 innings this season with 156 strikeouts and a 3.50 earned run average. The southpaw last pitched Aug. 16 against Washington, winning with 6 2/3 scoreless innings.

Hamels will have a precautionary MRI Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Phillies doctor Michael G. Ciccotti said Tuesday second baseman Chase Utley will begin a rehab assignment in the coming days with a targeted return some time next week; outfielder Shane Victorino could be back later this week; and Michael Bourn is still two to three weeks away from returning from a sprained ankle.
