Green to start at QB for Dolphins

MIAMI, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Veteran Trent Green has been named the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, the NFL team said.

Miami Coach Cam Cameron late Sunday said Green, 37 and a professional since 1993, had beaten Cleo Lemon and John Beck for the starting QB slot, the Miami Herald reported.

Green, who was twice a Pro Bowl selection, joined the Dolphins in June after six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He also has played for the St. Louis Rams, Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers of the NFL and British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League.

Lemon, a fifth-year pro who started Miami's 2006 regular-season final game, was designated Green's backup and Beck, a rookie, was listed as third string. Miami has a fourth quarterback, Gibran Hamdan, on its roster but it's not known if the team will keep four quarterbacks this season, the newspaper said.

''Cleo's time is coming,'' Cameron told the Herald. "He has a lot of room for growth, especially with his leadership.''
