NFL: Pittsburgh 12, Washington 10

LANDOVER, Md., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Rookie Connor Hughes kicked a 19-yard field goal with 1:31 left Saturday night as the Pittsburgh Steelers beat Washington, 12-10, in preseason play.

It was the second three-pointer of the night by the former University of Virginia star, and the fourth by a Steelers’ place-kicker in the game. All-pro Jeff Reed also booted a pair, as the Steelers improved to 2-1.

Starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 8-of-12 passes for 87 yards, and led the game-winning drive.

Backup Charlie Batch went 8-for-9 for 76 yards.

Washington got a major scare when starting quarterback Jason Campbell suffered a bruised left knee after Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel delivered a low shot in the first quarter. Campbell left the game and did not return.

Washington (1-1) got five catches for 60 yards from Chris Cooley -- and finally scored its first touchdown of the preseason on a 6-yard pass from backup Todd Collins to Brandon Lloyd.
