MLS: New England 1, Kansas City 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Taylor Twellman scored in the 72nd minute Sunday night, as the New England Revolution beat Kansas City, 1-0, in Major League Soccer action.

The goal was Twellman’s 10th of the season. The veteran striker got assists from Khano Smith and Shalrie Joseph.

With the victory, the Revolution (11-5-6) maintained their three-point lead over second place D.C. United atop the Eastern Conference.

The Wizards (8-7-5) looked rusty after being idle the last 17 days, and struggled offensively. They took only six shots on goal to 11 by New England.

The Wizards ended the game 10 points behind the Revolution in the middle of a scramble for the MLS Cup playoffs.
