Horse flu halts racing in Japan

TOKYO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A horseracing track in Tokyo canceled its races this weekend to control an outbreak of equine influenza, Kyodo News reported.

One horse at the Oi racetrack was isolated Friday after it was suspected of having equine flu. Horses were restricted from coming to Oi from other area tracks.

The Japan Racing Association said it was canceling all weekend races due to the horse flu. One patron told Kyodo News he expected the situation to last for a few months.
