IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Hot, muggy weather in Southern California may have claimed the life of a high school football player who collapsed during practice.

Kenny Wilson died on his way to a hospital Friday after keeling over during morning workouts at Beckham High in Irvine, The Orange County Register said.

An autopsy was pending Saturday; however, the newspaper said the temperature was about 90 degrees at the time.

Wilson, an offensive lineman, weighed 250 pounds and would have been a junior once classes began.

The Register said weekend practices at Beckham were canceled, and his Patriots teammates dedicated their upcoming season to their fallen friend.
