Henin, Jankovic reach Toronto semifinals

TORONTO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Justin Henin and Jelena Jankovic, the tournament's top two seeds, advanced to the semifinals Friday at the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Third-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova, however, saw her bid to claim her first championship of the year come to an end.

Henin had a difficult time before finally eliminating sixth-seeded Nadia Petrova, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Jankovic was a 7-5, 6-2, winner over Virginie Razzano.

Tatiana Golovin was a surprise victor over Kuznetsova, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Yan Zi claimed the other semifinal spot when Marion Bartoli retired in the second set. Bartoli was trailing at the time, 6-2, 3-0.

Golovin will take on Jankovic in the semifinals.
