Report: Summitt files for divorce

MARYVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Long-time Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt has filed for divorce to end her 27-year marriage to banker R.B. Summitt.

Pat Summitt filed divorce papers Wednesday in Blount County, Tenn., Circuit Court, citing "irreconcilable differences."

The Maryville (Tenn.,)Times reported Thursday through a school spokesman she declined comment on the proceedings.

The report added in her complaint Pat Summitt wants an "absolute" divorce, and "wife" reserves the right to add such additional grounds as may be determined following the completion of discovery procedures.

The couple has been separated 18 months and has one child a son, Tyler, 17.

Pat Summitt, a hall of famer, has the most coaching victories -- 947 -- in either men's or women's college basketball. Her teams have also won seven national championships over 33 seasons at the Southeastern Conference school. She won the seventh national title last season when the Lady Volunteers beat Rutgers, 59-46.
