ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Ian Kinsler hit what turned out to be a key homer in the eighth Wednesday and C.J. Wilson worked out of a ninth-inning jam as Texas downed Kansas City 4-3.
Kinsler's home run gave the Rangers a 4-1 advantage going into the ninth and Wilson was called on to protect the lead.
Wilson got his sixth save, but he allowed two runs and he had runners on first and third with only one out with Tony Pena at the plate. Wilson then got Pena to bounce into a double play to end the game.
Vicente Padilla, who had been out of action for almost two months with a right triceps strain, was activated prior to the game by the Rangers. He allowed a run on four hits and struck out eight over five innings. The win, however, went to Mike Wood (3-1), who gave up two hits in one inning of relief.
Gil Meche (7-11) gave up three runs on five hits in 6 1/3 to take the loss -- Kansas City's fourth in six games.
