Bonds has now surpassed former record holder Hank Aaron by four homers. The Giants' slugger has 25 for the season.

Wednesday night's home run came on the first pitch of the sixth inning off Tim Hudson.

That tied the game at 2-2, but the Braves scored four times in their half of the sixth and stayed 3 1/2 games behind the New York Mets in the race for the National League East title.

CINCINNATI, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal, his sore right knee wrapped, was forced to retire in the second set of his second-round match at a Masters Series event Wednesday.

Last week's Rogers Masters champion Novak Djokovic was eliminated, while top-seeded Roger Federer, who lost to Djokovic in Montreal last Sunday, easily advanced Wednesday.

Monaco has been climbing through the ranks this year, winning three tournaments including last month's Austrian Open. He took Roger Federer to three sets at the Masters Series event in Hamburg.

Nadal, however, had no trouble with Monaco when they played at the Mercedes Cup, posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Djokovic was defeated by Carlos Moya, 6-4, 6-1. Moya won this tournament five years ago. Federer was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Julien Benneteau.

Juan Carlos Ferrero, who was the runner-up here a year ago, advanced by defeating Fernando Gonzalez 6-2, 7-6 (9-7).

Other winners Wednesday included Lleyton Hewitt, Nicolas Almagro and Sam Querrey.

Report: Jets sign first-round pick

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Cornerback Darrelle Revis, the 14th player chosen in this year's NFL draft, reportedly signed with the New York Jets Wednesday.

The New York Daily News reported the signing, although New York Coach Eric Mangini would only say, "we're pretty close."

Revis did not appear at the Jets' Wednesday workout. He was the first cornerback taken in the draft, having played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh.

The Jets had hoped he would be an immediate starter, but his lengthy holdout could jeopardize those plans.

The only other first-round choice unsigned is the No. 1 pick in the draft -- quarterback JaMarcus Russell. The Oakland Raiders chose Russell out of LSU and the two sides have not come close to making a deal.

Mauresmo withdraws from U.S. Open

NEW YORK, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Officials at the U.S. Open said Wednesday Amelie Mauresmo, the seventh ranked player in the world, had withdrawn from the tournament.

Mauresmo is suffering from a right abductor strain and also recently underwent an appendectomy.

"My doctor has recommended that I allow myself additional time to rest and recover from this injury so that it is completely healed," Mauresmo said in a statement released by the United States Tennis Association. "Obviously, this is one of the worst times of the year for me to have an injury."

Mauresmo is looking for her first major title since winning last year's Australian Open and Wimbledon. She has never advanced past the semifinals at the U.S. Open.
