PITTSBURGH, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Senior University of Pittsburgh wide receiver Derek Kinder will miss the 2007 season with a torn left knee ligament.

The injury occurred Saturday night during a practice drill.

"It was a non-contact injury,” Coach Dave Wannstedt told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He never got hit, he just planted on the grass. The good news is he still has a red-shirt year left and the plan is to have him take the year off and rehab and come back next year and have a great year.”

The Albion, N.Y., native was a first team All-Big East selection last season after a team-high 57 receptions for 847 yards with six touchdowns, which was second in the conference.

Wannstedt said Kinder will undergo surgery within the next week.

The injury normally takes a 12-month rehabilitation period.
