Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHICAGO, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Kelly Shoppach highlighted a five-run fourth inning Thursday night as the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox, 7-5.
Aaron Laffey (1-1) picked up the first victory of his major league career, hanging on for 5 2/3 innings while allowing four runs on five hits.
The Indians moved 1 1/2 games ahead of Detroit at the top of the American League Central, with Jason Michaels contributing two RBI.
Cleveland got to Mark Buehrle (9-7) for seven runs on eight hits in four innings. Juan Uribe, who hit the game-winning home run in extra innings for the White Sox Wednesday night, added another blast in this game.
The five-run fourth allowed Cleveland to overcome an early 3-0 deficit.
