Nadal was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, winner over Frank Dancevic.

Federer will meet Radek Stepanek in the semifinals, after Stepanek pulled off a 6-4, 7-5, upset of fourth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko. Stepanek won a U.S. Open Series tournament in Los Angeles three weeks ago.

The fourth semifinalist will be Novak Djokovic, who ended Andy Roddick's recent hot streak, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Roddick was seeking his second straight tournament triumph, having won in Washington last week.

The Rogers is the sixth of nine Masters Series events this year.
