Tennessee running back suspended

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- LaMarcus Coker, Tennessee's leading rusher last season, has been suspended by Coach Phillip Fulmer indefinitely for violating team rules.

When he suspended Coker Tuesday, Fulmer did not say why.

"He has been working diligently to work through a medical situation, but that doesn't excuse where we are at this point. No person is bigger than the program. There are policies and procedures (players) must follow."

Last season, the 5-foot-11 inch, 195-pound junior from Antioch, Tenn., scored five touchdowns on 108 carries for 696 yards, and added one score on 13 pass receptions for 168 yards, despite missing two games because of a knee injury.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reported Coker has been in and out of Fulmer's doghouse, and the coach said at the team's Media Day last Saturday he needed to "go to class" and "stay out of trouble."
