NASCAR fines Robby Gordon

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- NASCAR has fined Nextel Cup driver Robby Gordon $35,000 for actions detrimental to stock car racing at Saturday's Busch race in Montreal.

Gordon refused to restart in 13th place following caution flags late in the NAPA 200 Auto Parts race. Later, he intentionally knocked race leader Marcos Ambrose off the track, and ignored a black flag, resulting in a penalty in the final laps.

Gordon declared himself winner afterward, but Kevin Harvick was officially named the winner.

Gordon was suspended from the Pennsylvania 500 at Long Pond, Pa., Sunday, and has been placed on probation for the remainder of the season.

He is 29th in the latest points’ standings, 1,479 points behind leader Jeff Gordon.

"We will come to Watkins Glen, N.Y., with a vengeance," he said.

The Watkins Glen International Raceway is the site of Sunday's Nextel Cup's Centurion Boats race.
