
NEW YORK, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Moises Alou hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday as the New York Mets edged the Atlanta Braves 4-3.
Alou's eighth home run this season came with one out in the eighth off loser Rafael Soriano (2-3) and snapped a 3-3 tie.
New York's Luis Castillo scored two runs and drove in two runs. Shawn Green had a run and four hits, and Jose Reyes had a run and two hits for the Mets, who have won two of three.
The winner was Aaron Heilman (7-3), and Billy Wagner earned his 26th save by coaxing Andruw Jones into a game-ending double play.
Chipper Jones had two hits and two RBI, and Mark Texeira had two hits and one RBI as the Braves had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Atlanta reliever Ron Mahay blew a save opportunity for the first time this season in the bottom of the seventh.
