Gaudio tabbed as new Wake Forest coach

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Wake Forest Wednesday named assistant men’s basketball coach Dino Gaudio to take over for the late head coach, Skip Prosser.

Gaudio said that he was extremely pleased to be taking control of the team but expressed regret for the conditions under which the promotion occurred.

"This is a very bittersweet moment for me," he said. "I love Wake Forest and I love the Atlantic Coast Conference. But I also love Skip Prosser and to become the head coach under these circumstances is not what I had envisioned. But I am also thrilled that I have been entrusted with the future of Deacon basketball by (athletic director) Ron Wellman."

Prosser, under whom Gaudio worked for the last six seasons, died July 26 from an apparent heart attack.

Prior to joining Prosser at Wake Forest, Gaudio served as head coach for Loyola-Maryland and Army.

During the seven seasons he spent as head coach at the two universities, Gaudio accumulated a 68-124 record.
